“It surprises me that the recent incident of Kibya village… gets all this attention while it really does not count when compared with previous inhuman acts committed against Arabs during previous years. Those incidents, I believe, never had been mentioned by the newspapers, fearing that the advertisement business may go down… My home is in Jerusalem.”

A Palestinian in Kentucky telling an American newspaper, in its own letters column, that American newspapers do not report massacres of Arabs, and naming advertising as the reason. The mechanism he names is an accusation, not a finding. What is not in doubt is that the complaint was being made in print in 1954, which means the silence this archive measures was audible to the people it was about while it was happening.
