“Dear Editor: The racist attitude of Israel and the world’s press has caused a surging rash of liberalism among ‘progressive’ elements of the Santa Barbara community. In order to build an effective mass, anti-imperialist movement, Palestine must clearly be recognized as the oppressed of the Middle East. The Palestinian movement should also be considered in the same perspective as other national liberation struggles. The masses should not fall prey to bourgeois press influence and their classification of Palestinian guerrilla organizations as ‘terrorists’; these courageous people are fighting for their liberation, not for the annihilation of the Jews… Israel attacks Palestinian refugee camps with napalm armed Phantoms which have been supplied by the United States. The Palestinian peasants find very little protection against Israeli bombs from their canvas tents… Zionism should be recognized in the proper light; as outright racism. Every document of the Palestinian movement makes it very clear as to how all Jews will be treated under a free Palestine; a non-sectarian, multi-religious state where all people will be free to worship as they please. It must also be immediately recognized that President Nixon’s massive annihilation bombings in Vietnam and Cambodia for the purpose of freeing American POW’s was a much greater crime against humanity than any guerrilla activity directed against Zionism… Thank you, Terry D. Eighteen months before the General Assembly voted, in a letters column, by a member of Vietnam Veterans Against the War who takes care to say he is not speaking for them. The American route to the phrase runs through Vietnam.
