LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8 — The Federal Bureau of Investigation said today that it had concluded the Jewish Defense League was “the possible responsible group” in recent bomb attacks against an Arab leader in California and two East Coast men with purported Nazi ties. Two of the attacks resulted in deaths.
The national leader of the Jewish Defense League, Irv Rubin of Los Angeles, said today that his group had nothing to do with the bombings. The most recent bombing, in Santa Ana, Calif., last month, killed Alex M. Odeh, the 41-year-old leader of an Arab-American organization, and injured seven people. How this transcription was made
The masthead itself is not in frame, but the credit line under the byline reads "Special to The New York Times", so the paper names itself on the page. Note the definite article: The New York Times, not New York Times. — No printed date in frame. The dateline reads "LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8" and the body says the FBI "said today", which puts publication on 9 November, consistent with Maria's label. The year is not printed anywhere on the clipping; 1985 rests on Maria's label and on the Odeh bombing having occurred "last month". — "acused" is as printed — a one-l misspelling of "accused" set by the paper. The excerpt ends where the column breaks to "Continued on Page 32, Column 3"; the jump page is not in this batch. — No deck. "Bombing Death in Jersey" is a subhead inside the body column.
