Deaths: 988 Palestinians killed by Israeli soldiers or civilians, including 110 by undercover units; 678 Palestinians killed by fellow Arabs, most on suspicion of collaboration; 109 Israelis, including 21 soldiers. Deportations of Palestinians: 73. Palestinian houses: 301 sealed, 434 demolished. Arrests and detentions: More than 80,000 Palestinians detained; 6,830 Palestinians in jail as of Nov. 1, including 223 held without charge or trial. Soldiers court-martialed: 236 cases brought; 191 convicted. The Gaza Strip, home to 800,000 Palestinians, covers 140 square miles - slightly smaller than Rockwall County, Texas' smallest.
