Transcribed from the clipping

Israel: Eighty students from Jewish secondary schools went to Acre for ten days to attend Arab schools, work in bakeries and nurseries, and watch the local Kadi administering Muslim law in the religious court. The boys, numbering 30, stayed at a Dervish monastery, according to a special religious permit from the Kadi.

The fifty girls who stayed at a hotel, heard lectures in Arabic, met local Arab youth, and visited homes and neighboring villages. The visit was aimed at improving understanding between the students and the Arab population, as well as polishing up their Arabic.

This is the first time that such a study-tour has taken place in Acre, as well as the first time that half of the teaching staff was composed of Arabs.

Date and publication rest on the collector's slide label; no masthead, folio or printed dateline appears on this clipping.

Context added by this archive

Short news brief, no byline. The lede begins with a standing geographic label 'Israel:' rather than a dateline. People of Palestine are called 'Arabs', 'local Arab youth' and 'the Arab population'; the word Palestinian does not appear. No ordinary individual is named - the only person referred to is 'the local Kadi', unnamed.

This record is part of Covering Palestine, an archive of American newspaper clippings about Palestinians, 1724 to 2023. Researched and assembled by Maria Robles.

The clipping belongs to the newspaper that printed it, or to the news agency that supplied the copy. It is reproduced here for research, criticism and commentary. A city here is where the newspaper was published, not where the story came from, and on most records it was taken from the masthead.
