Kissinger's current peace effort stirring debate among Israelis

“In one movement that might indicate the seriousness with which Kissinger’s efforts are being viewed in the Middle East, some Arab groups outside Egypt have begun attacking what they evidently consider to be an imminent Sinai disengagement pact.
‘This American agreement, which now seems to be getting into the stage of actual implementation, poses the greatest danger to the nationalist cause — that is, the Arab struggle with Zionism — since the June 1967 war,’ commented Zuhair Mohsin, head of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s military department and leader of the Syrian-backed guerrilla group, Al Saiqa.
Yesterday a Beirut daily, Al Sharq, which usually reflects official Syrian views, mentioned a reported understanding that would commit Egypt to a position of nonbelligerency, which it said violated a standing Arab agreement on ‘no separate solutions and the necessity of prior consultations on each solution.’
The Iraqi-supported daily, Beirut, yesterday attacked the prospective Sinai accord for the first time, charging that it means ‘an end to the Palestine struggle … and the overall Arab struggle for the liberation of Palestine.’”
