“In one movement that might indicate the seriousness with which Kissinger’s efforts are being viewed in the Middle East, some Arab groups outside Egypt have begun attacking what they evidently consider to be an imminent Sinai disengagement pact. ‘This American agreement, which now seems to be getting into the stage of actual implementation, poses the greatest danger to the nationalist cause — that is, the Arab struggle with Zionism — since the June 1967 war,’ commented Zuhair Mohsin, head of the Palestine Liberation Organization’s military department.” An Iraqi-supported Beirut daily charged that the accord “means an end to the Palestine struggle … and the overall Arab struggle for the liberation of Palestine.”
