“The Italian Communist party, the largest in the West, differed with Moscow and criticized the U.N. General Assembly vote equating Zionism with racism, saying it was damaging to the Arab cause. The Soviet news agency Tass hailed the resolution and said Zionism is racism of the same kind that was practiced in Hitler’s Germany.”

The third printing of the same dispatch, cut to two sentences and a headline about a split between Communists. What survives compression is the disagreement between Rome and Moscow. Everything about what the Palestinians said, and everything about the American reaction, is gone.
