Palestinian Said Tortured In Israel

Tyre, Lebanon (AP) — “A PLO spokesman said a Palestinian guerrilla whose body was returned here Wednesday was tortured to death in an Israeli prison. Israel denied the charge.” The spokesman, known by the code name Mustafa, “said the guerrilla fighter died Dec. 21 after being imprisoned in Beersheba, Israel for nine years. He said an autopsy would be performed on the body of Yasser Faour, 29. An Israeli police spokesman said in Tel Aviv that pathological tests were being conducted to determine how Faour died, but said his death was “not the result of violence.” The report adds that five prisoners had died in Israeli prisons that year, and names the Red Cross official for southern Lebanon, Marc Dryer.
